Bartlett School of Architecture by Hawkins\Brown
The Bartlett School of Architecture is an entire building reconfigured by stripping back the original structure by Hawkins/Brown.
The designers wanted to at least double the usable area therefore they expanded the space. The building constructed by Gilbert-Ash and designed by Hakwins/Brown is located close to Euston station. More precisely the building is located in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area and is a redevelopment of Wates House.
A new building structure
Because of the need of more studios and more breakout space the designers reconfigured the entire space. Above all their priority was to wrapping the building in a new skin; because of this they ended up in more than doubling the usable area.
In addition to the studios the design also includes an extension to provide enhanced foyer and café space. The designers adapted the unique pedagogy of one of the best school of architecture in the world.
An inspiring home
The building is located in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area and is a redevelopment of Wates House. The interiors reveal the activity within. The designers placed formal and informal exhibition spaces at the ground floor level.
The design of the new Barlett School respects its historic neighbours therefore the planning committee applauded the transformative timeless design made. Because of this is possible to consider the design contextually sensitive.

The Royal Institute of British Architects, RIBA, has awarded in 2017 the Bartlett School of Architecture as one of the UK’s best new buildings.
The jury appreciated a lot the evolution of the building because they felt that this adaptation respected the history of the place. The new skin of the building satisfied the London Borough of Camden planning authority.

I began by focus all of my attention on the interior of the houses and buildings. In addition to those pictures I’m currently working on assignments that covers the exteriors as well.
Architecture is now an important part of my services; particularly i find stimulating to work on assignments of these kind due to the precision requested.
